Marin City Scholastic Academy Seeks Support

Women Helping All People Scholastic Academy (WHAPSA) is a private, non-profit, K-8 school that prides itself in developing the critical thinking skills of its young scholars, preparing  them for the vigorous coursework of high school.
Many academy students who transfer out and go to public schools are ahead of their peers in writing, math and science. Additionally, an overwhelming majority of students who have been at the academy for two or more  years score proficient and above proficient on standardized tests.
The academy’s teaching staff consists of dedicated and experienced educators whose passion is to produce young, ambitious intellectuals who respect themselves, others and their environment.
This academic school year marks the school’s eleventh year of providing quality education to Marin City youth at an affordable cost. By seeking donations and organizing fundraisers, WHAPSA has been able to keep tuition affordable for the families of Marin City who are low income.
However this year, WHAPSA has been hit hard by the bad economy with a decline in financial contributions and an increase in its annual operating costs due to the rising costs of medical and liability insurance. WHAPSA is short $50,000 in its operating budget and is appealing to communities of Southern Marin to invest in the lives of young scholars.
This year, WHAPSA is also seeking to purchase the old “Burgess Estate” in Marin City in order to expand the school.  This would give students more classroom space, a science lab, an art room, a library, a computer lab and a place to play in their own playground and have a garden.
