Dynamic local community leader Charles Peoples, Sr., is making waves in the apparel industry in an unassuming building at 1036 East 8th St. in Oakland, which houses a 4500-square-foot manufacturing plant and silk screen facility.
Well-known as an avid golfer and director of the annual Peoples Pro-Am Celebrity Golf Tournaments, Peoples has spent more than 20 years giving back to the community and provides millions of dollars in financial scholarships to Bay Area college bound-students with the support of celebrities such as Clem Daniels, Bill Russell, Raymond Chester and Joe Morgan.
But Peoples empowers the community year round with CLP Specialty Advertising and Promotions, employing 8 people.  With the help of his son Charles Peoples, Jr., the company creates one-of-a-kind leather and cloth Negro League Baseball jackets and distributes embroidered apparel such as golf shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, micro fiber wind-shirts, hats and printed, t-shirts and a variety of customized team promotional and specialty items.
“We have a one-stop shop,” Peoples said.  “When you walk through the door, you don’t have to go anywhere else.  We offer retirement jackets, kids jackets, little league jackets.  And everything is made in the USA with no middleman.”
With an impressive 32-unit manual silk screening machines and an automatic machine, he can turn around 500 shirts in one and a half hours.  “This is great for family reunions, high schools and athletic teams.”   He also has 12 -unit and 8-unit automatic embroidering machines.
“You design it, we make it, and our prices are right.  No one can beat our prices, and our turnaround time for the largest of orders is less than 10 days,” he said.
Peoples is a firm believer in customer service and he guarantees satisfaction.  “If something’s wrong, we will give you your money back or fix the problem.  Also if I can give something back to the community at a fair price, something unique that nobody’s ever had, that’s what makes me feel good.”
