Clearly your health is your wealth and when you have your health, you have everything. The most important issue is to stay healthy and prevent the need to have to navigate our ever changing health care system. Disease prevention and health prevention can be maintained if you follow the 8 guidelines for healthy living:
These include:
1) Prayer and meditation
2) Read and gain knowledge
3) Eat to live (low salt, fat and carbohydrates)
4) Exercise regularly (5 days a week, 30 minutes a session)
5) Rid yourself of addictions (smoking, drinking, drugs)
6) Get rest and relaxation (8 hours a night)
7) Commune with Nature (Go outside to the park and take a walk)
Get your regular check ups (mammogram, pap smears, HIV test, prostate test, heart exam, colon exam, check sugar, cholesterol, hepatitis testing, etc.)
At some point you will need to enter the health care system and clearly if you “knew better, you could do better”. The health care (Continuum of Care) starts at home as noted. From there, you may go to your primary care provider. If you are seriously ill the “continuum of care” may take you to an emergency room.
From the emergency room, you may be admitted to the (hospital) and undergo treatments or surgery. Hospitals now admit patients to hospital only for acute/urgent treatments and you may be expeditiously discharged to a (skilled nursing) facility to complete your coverage of care. Another option is to go home with a (visiting nurse). The decision on where to go is often decided by the (case manager or social worker). Speak with your doctors about the skilled nursing facility that you would like to go to or the nursing agency which might be best for you. Your doctor may have experience and or a working relationship with the facility the facility or nursing agency. Also ask your doctor if they would follow you in the hospital and/or nursing home if you should require such care.
The James A. Watson Wellness Center is your health care advocate. The providers at the James A. Watson Wellness may assist you with health preservation, care for you in the office, at the hospital, nursing home and work with the home care nursing agency. We truly believe that your health is your wealth and that if you knew better you could do better.
