Brian J. Macon, from Master Mason to Illustrious Potentate

Brian Jamal Macon , born in Richmond, has risen to the top of Masonry in California. He was created into the Egyptian Temple #5, Oasis of Los Angeles, in 2004.  And after being elected to serve in every position in the line of officers, he was elected Illustrious Potentate for 2011.
He was born in 1971 as the younger son of Alvin and Carol Macon, who live in Richmond. Macon was baptized  at Davis Chapel C.M.E. Church in Richmond.
Throughout his childhood, Macon attended local schools local elementary and middle schools. He attended high school at St. Mary’s College High School in Berkeley and graduated in 1989. Macon attended college at the University of California Santa Barbara where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies.
2001 was a hallmark year for Macon. He learned he would soon become and father for the first time. As a result, he took up an interest in freemasonry, and learned its three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason. As Macon rose through the ranks of the three degrees, his son was born and passed away. In honor of his son, he continued his pursuit to ultimately become a Master Mason.
Macon was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason in 2002 into Crescent Bay Lodge #19 in Santa Monica.  After serving several positions in the lodge, Macon was elected and served three consecutive years as Worshipful Master, or head of the lodge. After serving as Master of his lodge, Macon was appointed to several positions in the Grand Lodge, or state governing body. He is currently serving as the Right Worshipful Junior Grand Deacon in the Grand Line of officers.
In 2004, Macon was created into Egyptian Temple #5, Oasis of Los Angeles.  And after being elected to serve in every position in the line of officers, he was elected Illustrious Potentate for 2011. Since being elected Illustrious Potentate, Macon has coordinated a number of charitable activities and events, which include helping low-income students realize academic achievements. He also supports the Prince Hall Shriners National Diabetes initiative.
Although Macon lives and works primarily in Southern California, he still considers the Bay Area his home and he’s a member of Davis Chapel C. M.E. Church
