Last weekend, former NBA star Thurl Bailey came to Temple Hill to celebrate Black history month. The celebration started at the Golden State Warriors game with the Utah Jazz where a record crowd of over 3,500 LDS members attended. According to the Warriors, this was a largest special event crowd to attend a Warriors game. Before the game, Thurl Bailey presented Warriors executive Al Attles with his personalized family tree, a gift from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and a chorus composed of full time Church missionaries sang the National Anthem. On Saturday afternoon, Bailey told a crowd of over 600 how he became an NBA player and, as a player, joined the LDS Church. He said that while in Greece to play, he wasgiven a Mini Cooper which fortunately had a sunroof to help accommodate Thurl’s 7 foot frame. Next week, on Temple Hill a free presentation of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Youth Chorus at the Visitors’ Center at 6 PM.
