Bailey Murder Trial Postponed Again

September 14, 2010 Uncategorized No Comments
By Michael Martin The murder trial of Yusuf Bey, IV, and co-defendant, Antoine Mackey, accused of the Aug. 2, 2007, murder of Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey, Jr., has been delayed once again. The delay is the result of a motion by defense counsel for a change of venue in the trial.  The request is based on the argument that the jury pool has been poisoned by local media coverage of the crime. In response to the defense motion, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Morris postponed the case until Sept. 13 for a hearing on the motion.   Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Melissa Krum speculated that the Sept. 13 hearing could take two or three days.  After a decision on the motion, a date for the trial will be set. The postponement is the fourth in the long-delayed trial of the case. Mr. Bey once operated the Your Black Muslim Bakery in Oakland, which was the subject of a journalistic investigation by the late Mr. Bailey.
