Questions About County Redistricting?

Every ten years, following the census, county supervisorial districts are redrawn by the Board of Supervisors to reflect updated population numbers.  Since 2000, Contra Costa County’s population has grown by about 100,000 to nearly 1,050,000 — making Contra Costa the fastest growing county in the Bay Area.
State law requires that each supervisorial district must approximately have an equal number of residents.   Under a recently passed state initiative, Congressional and State legislative seats are redrawn by a citizens redistricting commission.
Contra Costa County is now in the middle of its redistricting process, which is led by the County’s Department of Planning and Conservation. Read more
